Replacing Power Steering Pump

Just bought an '02 with the 8.1. The power steering pump is whining and steering is really stiff. Diagnosed at the shop as a bad pump. Wondering how hard of a job this is as I'm looking at doing it myself. Thanks.

Re: Replacing Power Steering Pump

The hard part is pulling the pulley and getting it back on.
Your local parts places usually rent or loan the tools for pulley.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the info. Parts store says they will swap out pulley for free. Just wanted to see what I'm in for, seems like alot of crap in the way.

Are you sure about the 8.1 engine? Gas or other?
Most if the PS setups you will have to pull the pulley before you can unbolt the pump.
Take close look at yours.
Good Luck
