92 Lumina speedometer quits and car stalls

92 chevy lumina 3.1. going down the road, speedo quits, service engine light comes on, car runs rough then dies. car will restart, then dies after a few seconds. i can get it started after 10-20 times, then problem starts all over again. service engine light does not come on after it stalls, no codes stored.

when it quits do the dashboard lights still work? It could be an electrical problem, or you could have a engine ECM problem. First you have to verify your charging system is fuctioning properly and go from there.

Speedo quitting just prior to the stall usually points to the pcm.
