2003 sport trac rear noice
I go over the smallest bump and hear a noice sounding like metal hitting metal in the passenger rear area. It somewhat sounds like something is loose. I got under the vehicle and couldn't see anything. The sound somewhat sounds like if the tailpipe was hitting metal, but its not. Does anyone have any idea what this might be. I also a a sqeeking noice in the front when you push down on the truck. Sounds like something is dry? Can anyone help. Please email me results. [email protected]. I'm new to this site and don't think I'll be able to find the orginal posting........Thanks

Re: 2003 sport trac rear noice
I cannot help with the noise in the rear, but the squeaking noise in the front is from the swaybar bushings being dried up and hardened. You can remove and grease them or replace them. Ford updated the part.

Re: 2003 sport trac rear noice
Welcome to the forum!
Since the responses could help others though, and many of us don't enjoy typing the same information over and over, the courteous thing to do is post on the thread that you started rather than via e-mail. Your noise in the rear may also be related to the sway bar in the rear. You may have broken sway bar end links, or links about to break and allowing enough play in the bar to make the noise you describe. A very similar noise occured in my 2000 Mountaineer, but it was in the front. I thought something was loose, and to me it sounded like a torsion bar. I inspected the front a couple of times and nothing was loose or obviously broken. A couple months later, the noise was worse and I was due for an oil change, so I climbed under the Mountaineer and one of the end links was rusted through. I had inspected these previously and they did not appear to be bad. However, I replaced them on both sides (the other side broke taking it loose) and my noise has been gone ever since. Your Sport Trac may have an anti-sway bar on the rear with similar end link issues. Also inspect the entire exhaust system for rubber isolators/hangers that are not where they should be. -Rod |

Re: 2003 sport trac rear noice
I think the guys have pretty much hit all the possibilties I can think of.
However.......If yours has the factory nerf bars/running boards, like mine, you might want to check and make sure that you didn't bend the mounting brackets....going over snow......making them hit the body when going over holes. Not that it would've happened to me I'm just saying. Thank you Ford for cheaping out on those!Denis |
