My 1996 2.2 Cavalier needs more MPG

Why did I buy a Cavalier? My previous car was a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS that was not only great on gas it was great on performance. Thing is a stupid student totalled it and now I own a cavalier.

It has 145,000 miles and considering that it's more than 10 years old now I decided to throw down some cash and do more than just a tune-up.

I decided to upgrade the parts.

Now my car has the following upgrades:

K&N Performance Oil Filter
Mobil 1 5W30 Oil
Cold Air Intake
Cat-Back Exhaust T-304 Full Stainless Steel
Performance OBD2 Catalytic Converter
4 NGK Iridium IX Sparkplugs
4 OBX 10.2 mm Racing Sparkplug Wires
OBX Racing Header T-304 Full Stainless Steel
Electric Supercharger (For increased air flow to the throttle body)

I have also done the following to increase or restore performance:

*Cleaned out Throttlebody with Carburator Cleaner with Toothbrush.
Removed Spare Tire and jack (Replaced with Fix-A-Flat can and Tripple AAA *Roadside Assistance) for less weight.
*Removed Excess weight (Stereo, Speakers, Carpets... [Who needs a stereo when you have a compact MP3 player?])

I am considering removing the side airbag but I am unsure if this will cause a problem with re-sale value.


Here are some upgrades that I am considering at this point...
Carbon Fiber Hood
Carbon Fiber Trunk
Fiberglass Body Kit
Front Mounted Intercooler (To send in cooler air to the engine through the cold air intake.)
15" Motegi Tracklite 2.0 Rims
15" Pirelli P6000 All Season Tires

The Carbon Fiber upgrades and the Fiberglass Body Kit would reduce weight and therefore give a better Power to Weight ratio resulting in more MPG.

With Power to Weight in mind...

Motegi Tracklite 2.0 are the lightest wheels on the market right now and weigh only 10.5 lbs and the Pirelli P6000's weight only 19 Lbs at 15" for both netting in a total of 29.5 Lbs for both wheels and tires.

I believe that reducing weight at the wheels should result in the engine cranking out more HP/Torque in comparison to really heavy wheels.


I plan on driving this car for 4 more years.

Any other suggestions as far as upgrades to improve MPG on this cavalier? No I dont want to buy a Hybrid right now.

Isn't the curb weight of our cars rated at 1,300 Lbs?
