'96 cutlass theft deterrent mod bypass

I have a 96 cutlass that has starting problems when it is hot in the cabin. The car will start and run for 2-3 seconds then stop (loss of fuel). I have a bypass to the key resistors in place. I believe the problem is with theft dterrent module. I found a different one at a junk yard that looks the same. Is there a way to reprogram the new on or make the new one work or bypass it total? Any help would be great

The only way to use the new one would be if you knew the resistance of the module. I want to say that there is 6 in total.

Not sure of how to get rid of it totally.

Why not just use the stock key with the chip? Less chance of it messing up that way.

I bypassed the key to eliniate that part of the security system. I am looking for a way to reprogram the Theft Deterrent Module. There must be some kind of sequence to follow.?

nope. GM did not want it to be easy to steal your car. That is why there is 6 different modules and 6 different keys.

If you have a problem with it, you either need to replace it with the same one, or put in a new one with a new key chip.

I was fighting with this in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme until I realized that I had accidentally stuck my 1996 Grand Prix module in there.

There are 15 different key resistences. So if I match the resistence programmed in the new/used TDM I should be okay, right? Does any one have any more info on this.

Re: '96 cutlass theft deterrent mod bypass

That is correct.

When I started swapping the the Oldsmobile Aurora dash, I decided that I am going to use my Cutlass Supreme theft module, then have an Aurora key made with the Cutlass Supreme chip. The Aurora that I got the module out of, I don't know the resistance, and instead of trying all of the resistances until I find the right one, I am just going to use what I already have.

That way, the hardest part is going to be convincing the dealer to cut a key but that has the wrong chip in it.
