Problem Car

For starters, this car has been nothing but trouble since I bought it over a year ago. It's a '96 Grand Prix SE with only one previous owner being a woman in her 50s. The dealer told me the head gaskets were replaced, and at the time, I knew very little about cars, so I assumed what he said was true. He seemed pretty trustworthy. Later, I learned that what he actually replaced was the valve covers. Stupid stupid stupid.... Anyway, a month later, head gaskets blew. Replaced engine, discovered tranny wasn't hitting 4th gear. Replaced that too. $2700 for both. (Paid $4k for the car) Wrecked the car going around a curve too fast in the rain in September ($2700 to repair, needed a new bumper assembly). Serpentine belt needed replaced, air needed recharged due to leak ($500). Now when I shift from Park into any other gear, the button thing on the shifter sticks a lot. Service Engine Soon light is on and once in awhile I hear a squeak coming from directly in front of me when I'm stopping. No, it's not the typical brake high pitch squeak, it's a short annoying one. Kind of weird, and I don't know how to describe it. I love my car, I love its looks a lot more than the new GPs, but I don't know what to do about these problems... Any ideas? I don't even drive this car hard.

Re: Problem Car

Is it a groan in stead of a sweak?

Re: Problem Car

No, it's a squeak, but lower in pitch than a brake squeak and shorter than a groan. I know the tie-rods need replaced sometime before August, and my front and back brakes are at 60% and 30%. I'm not sure which number matches which brakes.

Re: Problem Car

Lol, yeah... but I don't really want to. The SES light turned off on its own, and it doesn't seem to be having any more major problems. One dash light flickers, the clock lights up most of the time, and the right side power lock doesn't work, but it locks manually. So, eh, not too bad. And I like the looks!
