Acetone in diesel
Has anyone tried using Acetone to improve your GAS milage? (Sorry no diesel) I saw this on the news tonight. http://www.pureenergysystems.com/new...00069_Acetone/

I've seen reports of good results and reports of no change in MPG's with acetone. I've messed with fuel adds over the years. Mainly Fuel Power and Lucas UCL. I gave up on them. For me the costs were more than the bennies. Executed properly, acetone should be harmless. The only neg report I saw was an owner claimed acetone turned his fuel pump inlet sock black.

Best not to fool around with it.
Run a search there should be some older post on it some place. It is strange stuff. It takes the PCM sensors a tank of fuel to adjust to it. Some people have saw a increase in mileage on first tank of it and after that things may go the other way. Tread with care with that stuff MT

Don't use acetone!! acetone is basically rubbing alcohol. You don't wanna put any alcohol based substance in your gas tank. It probably would up your Mpg's slightly but it does way more damage. The alcohol long term will dry out seals and O-rings on injectors and everywhere else it touches. Use Marvel Mystery Oil if you want a good product. Its about $3.50 for a quart and it treats 80 gallons. It's not alcohol based so it doesn't dry out seals and rings. Any of those cheap additives do more damage than good, plus you pay up to $5 for one use. Get the Marvel Mystery Oil!!!!

Acetone's a solvent in the same class with toluene, benzene, naptha - pretty strong medicine. They're all hard on rubber and most plastics. It may have a future as an additive (if the EPA doesn't put the brakes to it), but I'd avoid adding it to motor fuel gasoline until the vehicle manufacturers could certify it won't damage expensive assemblies/connections/parts. I won't be holding my breath, but then you never know. Ethanol is, of course, grain alcohol, and as more of this "green" product is used for motor fuel we're seeing/hearing anecdotal reports of damage done to fuel systems in some vehicles, others unable to run it because the combustion programming won't adjust for it. Just my two-cents worth. You're free to try your luck.
