1994 Lesabre Steering Column

HI GUYS,I BOUGHT A 1995 LESABRE FROM THE AUCTION AND IT HAD A BUSTED STEERING COLUMN(STOLEN) I REPLACED THE COLUMN AND NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL CROOKED TO THE RIGHT.? I DIDNT NOTICE IT WHEN I DROVE IT HOME BUT I WAS RUSHING.WHEN I UNBOLTED EVERYTHING I HAD TO SNATCH IT OUT OF THE JOINT ON FLOORBOARD(HARD). THE U-JOINT TYPE OF THING SLID IN TO THE INTERIOR ALITTLE BIT BU I PSHED IT BACK OUT AND PUT THE NEW COLUMN IN. THE SPLINE IS A SHAPE WHERE IT ONLY CAN GO IN ONE WAY,BUT IS THERE ANYWAY I COULD HAVE MESSED UP THE U-JOINT TO MAKE THE WHEEL BE CROOKED OR IS IT THAt IT HAD TO BE THAT WAY FROM THE BEGINNING?

Hello

My guess is that since it was stolen they drove it like they stole it. How many miles on this car? If the miles are high it may need front end work like ball joints and tie rod ends replaced. Or it may just need an alignment.

Just for future reference. All caps is considered to be shouting. Is this how you intended to come across?

Regards

Dan

Re: 1994 Lesabre Steering Column

I had an Oldsmobile that was stolen. It was recovered and had a busted steering column, bent rim and needed alignment. I did not replace the steering wheel though. It had been stolen before and had been replaced once already. I ended up pop-riveting the column in place to stabilize it and just started it by pushing the piece of metal on the left side of the column. Drove it for several years this way.

I had unbolted the column when working on it and did not get it lined up quite right when I bolted it back up. It jutted a little to the right also. There was a little room for adjustment where it bolted up to the dash. Not sure if the Lesabre is the same or not. On this Olds though, there was a little wiggle room to move it left and right. Kind of had to get it where you wanted it and then tighten it up.
