newbie with climate control problem

Hey guys, I need some help with my 2000 Chevy Silverado. If I start the truck and its on the cold setting it will blow cold, but if I turn up the heat and then try to cool it keeps blowing hot and will not cool off Now if I stop and turn the engine off and make sure to set it back to cold and start it back up after a few minutes it will start blowing cold

Thanks in advance
Dave

Re: newbie with climate control problem

Very similiar problem with my 2001. I am assuming that you have AC.

There is a motor in the duct works that moves a flap between hot and cold. Your temp dial controls that motor. On mine, the motor was not powerful enough to move it back to cold once I put it on hot. Same problem and conditions that you have.

The motor is located on the bottom of the duct work, behind the center console just on the passenger side. I took out the motor and changed the temp dial, and the motor moved. I looked at the flap it controlled and made sure it was not binding. So, the motor had lost some of its power and the new part (about $70) fixed the problem.

Good luck.
