A/C Condenser for 3.8L

Hi all I currently own a 1999 Olds Intrigue GL with 3.8L Engine. I am in the midst of getting repairs and took it in for the A/C today. They tried to clean out the lines and recharge and it took the charge for a short period, but was warm by the time I came to pick up the car . So in short they quoted me at $350 to replace the condenser. Is this a good quote and will it solve all my problems? The mechanic said that the part would be about $125 and it would be about 3 hours labor for $225. Total $350. How hard is it to do it yourself?Any advice will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Pete

I need mine replaced too, but I have a 3.5. I don't know if the condensers are different, though. I was quoted at $510, so $350 sounds quite reasonable to me.

All I can say is, you Americans are lucky. Here in Canada the houry rate is $125 per hour and for a rebuilt A/C compressor is around $450. So if it is a 3 hour job it would cost $825 plus taxes of 14% or $759 US. If I were you I would go for it. later

Bit the bullet and had it repaired. Moving to Phoenix from Michigan, so I guess it was a no brainer. It's nice and cold 40 degrees F. Sounds like I got a good deal, hopefully no more repairs for a while.
