Re: help hard start

When was the last time the vehicle had a tune-up? Fuel filter--air filter, everything ok?

Once you get it started in the mornings, does it start ok the rest of the day? That almost sounds like a fuel issue. Can you check fuel pressure, does it bleed off?

Any trouble-codes? Some of the national brand auto-stores will read codes free of charge.

Re: help hard start

After seeing your codes, I would suggest checking the egr valve and circuits. The valve may be stuck open. The p1406 is an egr pintle position error.

Re: help hard start

If both both banks are showing a lean fuel trim, the first thing you check is fuel pressure. I've already asked you about fuel pressure. You can't diagnose fuel injection systems without a fuel pressure gage. It's a basic tool like a screwdriver. Fuel pressure may not be your problem, but you have to start somewhere, you got to rule something out.

You might also check the maf sensor. I'm not saying replace it.

As far as the egr valve, you might block off the egr, see if that helps. There shouldn't be any egr flow at start-up and idle. If you erased the codes after you worked on the egr valve, and the code came back, you still have a problem with that system.
