Autocross, featuring the Wingmen! (Definately not 56k friendly)
Okay so before I post pics and what-not I wanna give a whole story about the day, so a disclaimer to all of you, this will be a bit long.
There were 4 of us competing on May 20th, myself with the RX-8, musashi and his Goat, our friend Jorge with his 2004 STi and another friend with his 88 RX-7 non-turbo (First timer). We arrived with enough time to prep up and take some walks around the course. Musashi was the first to go up, clocking in at 52 seconds around the course it wasnt the greatest time, but it was only te first run. Each run he made he managed to take down seconds from his time coming to a final time of 47.XX around the course, very nice time, but unfortunately since he was placed in a different class due to his mods, STU, it was a bit difficult to get a competative time. Next up it was the STi (A stock) and Myself (B Stock) and i was nervous out of my mind. Our first run wasnt too good since we were getting to know the track. He clocked in at about 52 seconds and I clocked in at 54 with an off course. I had also decided to mes with different settings in my car and for this run i kept my traction on and my stability control on. 2nd run i took off my stability control and knocked my time down a second to 53, the STi knoced his time down to about 50. 3rd run i decided it was time I took off my traction and stability, which took down my time to 51seconds, still not good enough to be somewhat competative. the STi broke into the 40's with a 48 second run. The fourth run I found myself calm and at ease, no longer with clammy hands I managed to pull my time down another second, still could do better though. Our friend with the STi was having trouble on that run and his time worsened to 49 seconds. On the last run one of the RX-8 drivers, who has been competing goes up to me and says, "Look, I'm about to drive the car for you. What are you having trouble with? What are you doing on your launch." I tell him I rev up and feather off the clutch. "Where are your hands?" I tell him I have both of them on the wheel. "Where do you shift into 2nd?" I tell him after I go throught the first turn right before the first slalom begins. "Well you arent doing anything wrong, you shouldnt be having any problems." and i tell him that i'm really nervous and that im having trouble around the big sweep because i feel the tail kicking out. "Have you ever spun out before?" I tell him that I have twice. "Well you should use that to your advantage, not to be keeping you in fear. You know the limits of the car so push it to that point and since youve felt it before you know where not to cross the line." I take his advice and go on my last run, knocking off 2 seconds for my final time bringing it to 48.XX putting me in a competative time frame. I still got last place in my category, but i wasnt demolished or anything and I'm proud of myself to drop so much time. The STi managed to kill his time and get a 46 around the track, still not as good as he wanted but he was very happy with his results. Our friend with the rx-7 didnt do too bad once an instructer helped him out and he had fun, he also said he was going to be joining us from now on. I Lost to musashi, and if you are reading this musashi, It's not gonna happen again, I promise you that one We all had fun and I have another one on june 2nd and 3rd up in Ft. Myers where my cousins live. The 2nd is a practice day and the 3rd is the actual event, This course will be a mile and a half to 2 miles long, as opposed to the small courses weve been doing here in miami, I hope to learn alot from that event and come back alot better than before. Wish me luck!Picture time, there are alot of them! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() our camera crew, the mustangs ![]() for support

Wow, I did not see that coming. I figured the Rx-8 would outpace the GTO all day. That first pic of the Goat looks like its about to roll over lol. Got body roll?
Oh, and is it possible to get pics that do not say "PROOF" across them?

oh it wont happen again, i promise and sl300gt, the rx-8 did walk on the goat all day, just not with me in it, another guy who was in my class group with a stock 8 ran a 44.XX for his last run so yeah (he's been taking his car for over a year now), i know my car is capable of alot more, i was just way too nervous, but that passed, so next time will be alot different. And to get the proof off of those, i would need to purchase all of them.

Nice!
Musashi nice times. Only a sec or less off the STI's time is defiantly respectable. Trying to put that power down on a tight course must have been a b*tch. Did you run with or with out traction control?

im pretty sure he did it without t/c also i only put up our times, we all placed last in our groups, but for me and musashi we have alot of learning room left, so i'm definately proud of us, though weve been to autocrosses, it was like going again for the first time since we have new cars.

Haha, so what would a good driver in a GTO run then? Because everyone knows Musashi is about as good at driving as CivRacer is being a moderator lol. j/k

That's really neat guys. It's good to see that you're having fun out there again. Keep progressing and getting better.
Nice time for both Musashi and Gotian, but I defenitely didn't expect the goat to outperform the rx-8...

and as for that comment on what would a good goat driver run, well he would run better than musashi, but that also goes for the good 8 driver, cause that kid who was running with me was better than me, but by all means was not the best 8 driver there, unfortunately i wouldve loved to seen the guy who gave me the pep talk run his 8, he said its gonna be there for the next event though. The way the course was set up was definately more in the 8's favor but i couldnt take advantage of that, but i will learn more and i look foward to doing so.

As far as the goat doing better than the RX-8. It's about the skill of the driver not only the car and Musashi can drive!! He wasn't the only one getting "walked" on all day. A lot of cars and their drivers were doing well on the track and spanking a majority of the contestants. Be it whether you were in your own class or another. Let's admit it was a beautiful afternoon out that day for a great run. |
