removing engine from 96 g-am

I am in the process of pulling my engine. I have done rear wheel drives but not fwd's. is it easier to pull engine&trans? do you drop the frame? I am afraid i dont have enough room to slide the engine forward without hitting the inner fenderwell. I was thinking maybee i need to take that tranny mount off so i can slide tranny back a bit? HOW DO YOU GET TO THAT BACK TRANNY BOLT? heck i have tried every position possible , i have even stood on my head. I dropped the exausht down and i think that made it worse. please give me some insight. thanks

Re: removing engine from 96 g-am

Well when i did my 96 with a 2.4 i pulled the motor/tranny out together. Then disasembled out of vehicle. It took some manuvering, but they both came out the top w/ no prob. But i pulled both out together b/c i was replacing both motor and tranny.

In order to get the back bolt on the tranny you need a long entension (2-3 ft)and a swivle 15m. Go in through the RF wheel well, you may need to remove the bracket that goes from the block to the tranny (need to remove anyways if pulling motor) you should be able to get the bolt that way. Any other questions let me know, i did it a few years ago, but ill help if i can...

The engine will come out from the top but the engine to trans mounts need removed. The mount bolts for these are in tight spots, which usually means wrenching as opposed to ratchet.

And you can drop the trans and not the motor .

Unless you need to work on the trans I see no real reason to remove it, just more work.

Yes.
OH yea, you would also want to remove the exhaust manifolds bolts.
The exhaust can just stay in the car.
