speedometer outta controll

help.. my speedometer is goin crazy.. i have a 1995 mustang v-6 3.8. 5 speed manual tranny. when i go through the gears to get up to speed my speedometer seems to be about 15 mph fast... and stops accelerating at about 78.. even though i know im goin alot faster..also when i go through the gears the speedometer goes alot faster than the tach like i had NOS on steroids. and sometimes the speedometer doesnt work at all..... and we all know that a 6 cyl. mustang isnt that fast...its freaky.. the odometer seems to be working perfectly..somethings definitely wrong here. any ideas or suggestions please help. -Brett

Re: speedometer outta controll

Sounds like a speed sensor problem. Hook up a scan tool and see what the speed sensor is doing via scan tool while this is happening.................

Re: speedometer outta controll

Check the connection at the speedo, my bet is that it's the speedo itself.
