Big problem, long story. Please read.

Okay my best friends bought a 97 sunfire gt off a lady, but, this car has a 02 sunfire 2.2 motor and tranny, the car was a standard converted to auto. Anyways, the theft system is a problem in the car, it sometimes kicks in, and sometimes doesnt, sometimes you can go days without it kicking in and keeping the car from starting, some times the theft system will not go away for days, its random. What they have done, is took it to GM, they said it was the cluster causing it, so they replaced the cluster, same problem, next we replaced the ignition key cylinder, no luck, next we tried swapping the computer with another sunfire form the wreckers, nothing, then we installed a anti theft bypass unit, and that STILL doesn't work. we have tried everything that could cause the anti theft to kick in to stop it, no luck, had GM check the new engine and everything was wired correctly and it was, the car has no alarm, no auto starter, nothing, and tried turning on and letting the theft light blink for the 15 minutes, it works but then the problem will recur randomly again and have to do it again. No idea what the problem is but they are getting ready to scrap it, and they have put lots of moeny in trying to fix it.....hopefully someone has an idea what it is?? thanks!

i'm not familiar with alarm systems but my suggestion would be to have it completely removed from the car..??

i mean its not in the engine right? its an electrical component.. maybe u'll have to get a replacement steering column?? maybe 200 bucks + installation if you don't know how to do it..

thats my best guess, it sucks that you posted this like 6 days ago, said "big problem" and nobody responded
