Shifter/Ignition Problem 01 2500HD 8.1L Allison

I have a 2001 2500HD with the 8.1L and the Allison tranny, and I have two problems of concern. The first being that my shifter is really loose and has a lot of play, and I was trying to figure out if there was some way to tighten it up. Also, I have a problem with the key in the ignition. Sometimes the key just will not turn, and it isnt that the steering wheel is locked, it just will not turn. And sometimes, when I go to park, the key won't want to come out and the truck is not completely shut off. Could these problems be linked in some way if the truck is not getting put into gear completely? I've learned to jingle it just right and get it to work, but I feel like it is time for it to be fixed.
