1998 olds bravada: won't start when hot outside

My bravada will not start sometimes after sitting in the sun. It has to be warm outside. Sometimes 1 hour and sometimes 10 minutes but will always crank again. It turns over and fires but just won't crank. Any help?

When it is in a no start mode check fuel pressure for being up to specs and see if it has good hot blue spark to more than one spark plug.
Post back your fuel pressure reading.

A little clarification is in order, when you turn the key does the engine crank but not start? Can you here the fuel pump running prior to cranking for 2 to 3 seconds (have friend turn ignition on and listen in front of drivers rear tire should hear fuel pump running during the priming cycle)? If you can hear the pump running can you measure the pressure on the fuel rail and post? If so does it have spark at 1 or more spark plugs?

If it does not crank, are there any interior lights (possible bad battery connection)? Does relay chatter(low battery or bad positive or negative battery connection)? Turn on head lights and look at them while friend turns ignition to crank, are HL's on do they dim while switch is turned to crank (possible bad starter commutator or solinoid)? Do the gauges go to thier normal position while switch is in run with engine not running ( bad ignition switch)?

MT could a 98 Bravada have the bad ignition Sw. that I have read about in other threads or is that just 97 MY Blazer? Could a bad ign sw. be temp sensitive?

Good luck get back to us,
Sparky

It could be switch or if a security system or add on remote start or anti theft.
But first check if he has good spark and proper fuel pressure.
A bad switch will usually shut off spark and or fuel pump power.

Re: 1998 olds bravada

When I say crank I mean the engine is turning over and we get fire and gas. It's basically starts for about 3 seconds. After the 3 seconds it just dies like it is starved for gas or loss of spark. I will try and listen for the fuel pump tonight and post tommorow. Thanks, tbnole

Start and run 3 seconds and shut off points the anti theft system.
Does the security light stay on when it does this?
Has the security light been coming on?

Runs for 3 seconds then shuts off? When it starts does try to rev to a higher than normal RPM? If yes, my 87 had a stuck EGR valve and the symptoms were the same as the ones you are experiencing. Don't know if this is the problem you have but it is something to think about.
