rebuild help! (sorta)

ok. ive decided. im gonna pull the engine and work on it.. eithier the LT1 or the TPi.. im leaning towards the TPI just cuz i dont have to have a broken car (not working till i finish the engine sorta thing) the TPi will bolt up to the t-56, right? anyway, i wanted a manual for both the TPI and the LT1.. .anyone got any good rebuild manual suggestions? i perfer a lot of pictures..cuiz im a visual learner. i really do need to learn about the details of engine working and i figure, hell, lets go for it.

this is gonna be a loooong rebuild tho, so thats why i wanna do it on the TPI from my broken firebird...

Re: rebuild help! (sorta)

Don't be so intimidated.

Take your time, label things correctly so they don't get crossed. Mainly vacuum connections. Wouldn't hurt to do the electrical connections, but most snesor connectors only connect one way to a secific sensor.

When it comes down to removing parts from the motor, printer paper box tops are god. IE -cylinder heads, make a diagram of the head on the the box top and direction of the motor, always use forward as a point of ref. Then as you remove each bolt, take a screwdirver and pop a hole in the box top in relation to where it came off the head, same would apply to almost everything else, intake, water pump, oil pan, headers, etc.

Really, once all the wiring and hoses is out of the way, the actual rebuilding process of the motor is fairly easy believe it or not.

Although I understand your reasoning, I think back tracking to a TPI from the LT1 is not a good idea. I would be more concerned of engine management by the ECM more than a rebuild going that route.
