TORX bit for MAF sensor

Does anybody know what size # TORX bit I would need for the tamper proof TORX bolts on my MAF sensor in my 97 GTP? I think the MAF element is dirty. I get a DTC P0102. Thanks

I believe it's a t-20 tamper proof torx.

Re: TORX bit for MAF sensor

the one tblake is talking about is for the front brake caliper bracket on earlier (96-older) Grand Prix's, as well as other GM w-bodies through 99. The factory bolts are installed with threadlock, and if you don't heat them, you'll be breaking a lot of those t-60's.

Re: TORX bit for MAF sensor

Wow I have the same code! I could not find a security torex so I used vice grips to loosen it then used a small screwdrive to take the screws all the way out.

Did you clean the MAF sensor with electric parts contact cleaner? If so, did it take care of the code?

Re: TORX bit for MAF sensor

Long story. Short answer is no it did not help. When I took mine off the first time the wires looked clean. I put it back and went to the auto parts store. I went ahead and bought the cleaner (MAF cleaner aerosol about $6.50). When I got home I again took it out and found out the bottom had broken off. I went ahead and sprayed it and put it back and I still get the same code. I will buy a replacement from the pontiac dealership on the way home today. ($232.00 plus $60.00 core charge if you don't return the old one). I will post back the results in a couple of days when I get time to work on it. I assume it is the sensor but I find it strange that the car runs just fine with the bad one even though it is setting off the check engine light and setting a P0102 code.

Re: TORX bit for MAF sensor

How did you clear the code after you cleaned the sensor?

Re: TORX bit for MAF sensor

I have a OBD2 code reader that will read and also clear codes if you want it to. I got it about a year ago at walmart. Cost about $90.00. Well worth the money. My excuse to buy it was I was shopping around for a used car (my grand prix) and I wanted to check for codes before I bought a car. It reads pending as well as hard codes. I now have a lot of friends that want their cars read!
