Laguna immobiliser (N)reg

Took the car shopping this morning and when I returned it would not start, the key did not undo the central locking and so as the remote is also linked to the immobiliser I was stuck. i could unlock the car with the key but of course the immobiliser was still activated.

Got a taxi home and rang the nearest renault dealer (Newport) and they told me I would have to contact Renault Cardiff.

Renault Cardiff said that i would have to have the car towed to them at a cost of £55 and they would stick it on a machine for a further £60. Is that it I said in despair, no they said you will have to pay for any work done on top of these costs and of course parts all plus VAT.

Now this lot was likely to come to more than £300 so I was pretty shocked however as the car had been very wet inside latelt I liiked at the reciever in the cabin, dried it out with a rag and it worked.

I don,t know if the problem is fixed permanently so at last here is my question.

What can I do to disable the immobiliser if this happens again and can I do it on the remote itself.

I have seen several threads on the web for this but no answers.

Will try and find out

The central locking and immobiliser on my Laguna (2.0S RTi - 1995) have never worked. I've tried to find out which part of the system is more likely to be broken but didn't get anywhere. After reading your message it would make sense for the receiver section to be the problem as i've seen a few drips of water there before! Somehow the immobiliser on mine has always been disabled, don't know how but can try and find out for you (probably won't be until next weekend though, the cars off the road for other reasons at the moment (like a jammed gearbox for staters!)

immob

hi folks

apparently there is a way of deactivating the immobiliser without the key, but ive never seen it done and have no idea if renault would be willing to confirm it to anyone. the button on the steering wheel stalk (no not the horn, the other one :P ) can be pressed in a certain sequence which deactivates the immob. try and found out more if u can.

I have just been through this and spent over £300 at Renault sorting it out. I asked them if there was any way I could find out the bypass code so that if it happened again I wouldn't have to pay for a tow, this is the reply I got:
"We can't give it to you because it's illegal and will invalidate your insurance"

So it's apparently illegal to inform me of the code that will allow me to bypass an anti-theft device on my own vehicle to allow me to drive it.
And even though the anti-theft device would only be disabled while the engine is running and would be instantly re-armed as soon as I turn the engine off, this would invalidate me insurance.
Hmm, I feel a letter to trading standards coming on

Smile might be able to help

Hello mate,

my central locking started to not work, so unlocked it with key and as you might guess the alarm went off when i put the key in the ignition.

I also had a leak through my ariel and water was dripping through down of my censor, so i think that was the problem to why it was only working fine when it was dry.

Anyway to get to the point of hopefully fixing your problem, go to any DIY store and get some waterproof sealant, about £1.50 form wilkos preferably translucent as they don't do different clours and seal around all of the ariel when its dry if you can.

Also you might need to dismantle the interior censor and see if its holding any water in it, and obviously dry it

hope this helps

Seems to be a common problem with renaults. My 96 megane coupe is giving me sleepless nights
cant turn the immobiliser off with the fob and can unluck doors with the fob . Thought it was the key at first , changed the batteries no such luck. Still have no answer think its the result of the roof sensor

Re: might be able to help

my 96 megane had the same problem, but it turned out that if the key is pressed a number of time (thousand probs) the key resets itself. I went through a main dealer, who contacted renault for the 4 digit code, and manually re-coded the key. It cost about £20

I never did get my code and funnily enough, my Laguna was scrapped yesterday but if you are having this problem due to rain have you tried taking the receiver board out and drying it? This has worked for me loads of times

Re: Laguna immobiliser (N)reg

At least you have your code, they told me it was illegal to give me the code and made me pay £70 to get it towed to them where I watched the smarmy mechanic get in the car, start it and drive it into the workshop. I could've killed him there and then!! lol

From what I saw it seemed like a combination of pressing the central locking button next to the handbrake and pushing one of the pedals with his foot but I was twenty yards away so I didn't get a clear look. the only thing you can do is tow the damn thing to them. Hope you get it sorted, cost me over £300 to get mine sorted.
