I have a 98 Cavalier Z24 that will not start. One day I reached over to turn on the a/c and the car died, but re-started fine. Two days later the check engine light came on, and later went off so I though nothing of it. The next day my car died while waiting to pull out from the store and would not start again. I put my scan tool (Snap-On) on and it came up with 2 crank sensor codes, 1 camshaft code, the PCM lost all data and lost communication with the ABS module.
So far I have replaced the crank sensor and had 2 different pcms re-flashed for my VIN (and have tried both!). Car still would not start but the "Security" light remained on constant letting me know there's a problem with the "Anti-Theft" system. So I got a new ignition lock cylinder. When I attempted the re-learn proceedure again the "Security" light flashed for 10 mins like it was supposed to, but then went back on to staying steady. I thought this was a V.A.T.S. issue so I had the VATS system disabled in the PCM by a perfomance shop. It still wont start!! Now it comes up with a code: Z14 VTD R-CODE UNPROGRAMMED.
This code, no matter which PCM I use, will not clear. I still have no communication with the ABS and cannot get the car to start period! The dealership is confused and now refuses to work on my car (ASSHOLES!) Does anyone have any idea what's still holding me back? My fuel fump is fine, 5 volf ref checks out, all fuses/ relays are good. I am told that there is not a BCM on my specific model, are there any other modules that can engage a "NO-START"? PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks!
