99 Sebring won't start

My daughter went into a store and when she came out her car wouldn't start. It turns over but won't start. It has no spark. We replaced the distributor, still wouldn't start. Then we replaced the engine computer still nothing ( it is the right computer, I matched the numbers up). Then we replaced the crank position sensor, still no start or no spark. Going crazy here. What else could it be? We also checked all the fuses and fusible links, all look good.

Re: 99 Sebring won't start

It appears to be fixed! The last 2 items replaced were the distributor and the crankshaft sensor. Both were done at Pep Boys for just under $500. The car had gotten to the point it would not start. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: 99 Sebring won't start

I have the same problem. Driving down the highway one morning and it starts to skip and hesitate, RPM needle is flying all over the place, engine light comes on and eventually the battery light. It never really stalls on me but it skips to the point where it is undriveable. I have already replaced the distributor, wires, crank shaft sensor, etc. within last nine months. I also replaced, alternator, battery, and starter in the past year. I can start it but it won't stay running. Can it be the PCM? I ask because all the codes throw back to only those parts that have been recently replaced. Three different diagnostics but the codes all show the same issues. Its frustrating. Could all the same replacement parts have gone bad again? 200K miles but a nice car. Limited Edition Convertible 2.5 V6

Re: 99 Sebring won't start

Hey canfixit, I finally gave up on my Sebring. It had less than 90k miles and was in awesome "eye candy" condition but I had to have something reliable so I could get to work. I traded it because my ethics wouldn't let me sell it outright without telling the buyer what was going on. They gave me $2k for trade in...much less than it should have been worth given miles, body condition, etc. I wish you all the luck in the world getting yours going reliably! Post and let us know how it turns out, okay?

Re: 99 Sebring won't start

Thanks for the info but I am not quite ready to throw in the towel. With 200K miles probably not even good for trade. Unless I have been unfortunate enough to have gotten ALL bad after market parts from my mechanic, I think it might be the PCM. Why else would it only code the replacement parts? I'd like to try and replace it but I can't find it? Any idea of its location in the vehicle?

Re: 99 Sebring won't start

canfixit, I have the Haynes Repair Manual if you want it. Email where to send it US Mail to [email protected]. Meanwhile what year is your car and I can tell you what the manual says about the PCM.

If I remember correctly, my sebring kept throwing the same codes over and over after replacing the parts too.

I know...not helping...good luck!

Re: 99 Sebring won't start

I have had two cars do this to me and both times it was the crank shaft/ cam shaft sensor.
