Question 99 Lincoln Town Car Air Suspension

I HAVE A 99 LINCOLN TOWN CAR . I WENT OUTSIDE ONE DAY TO GO TO WORK AND THE REAR AIR SUSPENSION WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN . I CHECKED THE FUSES FIRST AND FOUND ONE 30 AMP MAXI FUSE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BLOWN. WELL I REPLACED IT AND IT BLEW RIGHT OUT ,SO I PUT ANOTER ONE IN AND IT DID THE SAME THING . DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHAT MAY BE GOING ON ? NEED HELP FROM SOME ONE WHO HAS HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE . THANKS.

this is a typical symptom of a bad compressor for the rear air suspension. when the fuse blows, the compressor shuts off and vents all the air out.

my suggestion is until you get a new compressor, put in another fuse and let the compressor pump up the rear. then go into the truck and turn the switch for the air suspension to OFF. that way, the compressor will not vent the air in the rear.

once you do that, climb under the back of the car with a spray bottle full of soapy water and spray each bag to make sure there is no leaks. a leak can be detected when you see bubbles being blown on the air bag itself. The reason why you should do this is if the compressor is bad and the rear keeps loosing air, it is possible that stress from that can cause a bag to begin to leak.

I have rebuillt several of these units. What generally happens is the piston in the pump will freeze up. Sean is right about geting a new pump. Or you could convert to the spring set up. I havent had any problems out of my 91 TC with 115k on it, knock on wood.
