throwout bearing noise?

clutch problems are following me, but i got mine fixed. my friend has a 98 cherokee sport 4.0 4x4 5 speed, and its got a ticking, like a lifter, noise at idle, and speeds less than 10 mphs, thats coming from the bellhousing area. it goes away when you engage the clutch, but comes back when the clutch pedal is released, and in gear if you are going extremely slow. over 10 mph and its gone, unless your in neutral. in neutral without the clutch pressed, the noise is always there, and you only have to press the clutch 1/4 down to make it go away. I thought it was a throwout bearing, and since we had to pull the tranny, we installed a clutch kit(disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing) friday night we got the tranny out, saturday night we finally got it all back together, and the noise was STILL THERE. the new kit did absolutly nothing. i decided hell, lets drain the fluid and see what it looks like. i ran a magnet through the fluid and found only an extemely minor amount of magnetic sludge(less than was in mine) so to recap, at idle noise, clutch in noise goes away, throwout bearing new, any ideas?
