Cant find temp switch

i have been having a problem with my 94 4.6 missing when the car is first
started up. Im thinking temp switch. Seems like even when it was real cold the temp gauge light up to the middle at normal immediately. perhaps its telling the computer it is warm and causing the misfire. Switch was cheap enough at 4 bucks.

My problem is i can't find where it goes. Manual says in the water inlet near the thermostat. Auto zone componant locator says water inlet drivers side. I dont see it. There are two identical temp semsors in the intake manifold. One on each side. The switch im trying to find is the one with a single probe on it. Sure could use the help. The manual has many times paid
back the twenty bucks it cost but on this one im on my own.

Surely appriciate it. Thanks

Re: Cant find temp switch

Yes that is the ect. Changed it today. I noticed that the other side has a coolant sending unit. If that controls the dash gauge or warning light then what does the temp switch do? Has one electric probe on top. I was thnking that the temp switch contolled the closed loop thing during start up and warm up. If anyone knows I sure appreciate it.

Thanks for your response and the wonderful diagram town2town

Thanks for your response and the wonderful diagram town2town.

NOTE: Diagrams provided by Towncar - a different person from "town2town".

Not taking anything away from town2town, just trying to keep the record straight!

Re: Props to Towncar

My apologies for the mistake. Thank you for the diagrams of the
Coolant temperature sensor, Towncar. Although I did asked for temperature switch (different part) location I planned on changing ECT next and the diagram helped. I hate the enie menie miny mo thing when I comes to two look alike parts. Im usually wrong.

Still wondering where that temperature switch is. If ya got a location on it
please send it my way. These new fangled glasses make it hard to see in the dark corners

Thanks again TOWNCAR

Re: Props to Towncar

Well, I don't list a "Temperature Switch" on that engine at all.
The reason we're all referring back to the ECTS and the WTISU is because that's all that's listed on that engine.

We're 2nd guessing, or you might say re-interpreting what you posted

I haven't scanned the other cooling system components yet, there may be a switch near the radiator or something like that.

The switch you acquired; is there a thermal bulb on the working end? Maybe they gave you something you don't need?

On another note, it sounds a bit strange that both of those sensors would go bad at the same time..

Have you seen your Factory Service Manual from fordcds.com on this subject yet?

Re: Cant find temp switch

Probably the wrong part although autozone has it listed as a part for that motor and a location. I dont think the ECT was really bad but Im warming up
to the fact I might have a weak coil pack causing the missfire at warm up and replacing some of the cheaper ones. Either way i can throw a lot at it and still not reach the 300 this month the old lease was costing me

trying to learn how this thing ticks was hoping that switch was what told the computer to make the switch for start up to run cycle
