Family of maximas??

(you can skip this part - just me b*tchin)
to start off, my mom drives a 02 SE, i get to drive it with her in it, and i little bit around the block when i wash it. today, on my way to drivers ED, via bus, my transfer didn't go throught, the bus driver was being stupid and made me late. so i walked the rest of the way from the transit center. it takes about 30 minutes to get there, and i have to leave early because of the crappy bus scheduling, so i got there on time. but this is about the trip there. im walking on the sidewalk, and a early 90 skyline pulls up slowly nexxt to me at a red light. that just made my day! see i live in the suburbs and sports cars don't exsist in my area, then 20 seconds later on the other side of the road, theres a late model RX-7, now im no longer mad at the stupid bus driver, now i walking past where the bus should've dropped me off, and

(start reading here)
i see a 92 or something maxima with a for sale sign on it. it says 2500 obo, i got the number but not the model or year, i was too excited about sports cars in middle class suburbia. but i want that maxima, i think it was the SE because of the white face gauges (maybe aftermarket i don't know), and its a 5 speed. damn i want that. i only have to pay for half of it, my deal with my mom. and i'll have plenty of funds left over for mods or a stereo if i get that maxima? any comments? or if you feel my situation go ahead and pray for me.

I own a 92 SE (auto) wish it was a 5 speed. I have been really happy with my car until recently. I have an annoying exhaust leak that I am getting ready to find and fix.

The only real gripes that I have is that the 89-94 maximas don't have alot of aftermarket parts (mods) available. If I were you I would get a 95-99 SE 5 speed if you intend to mod the car. Don't get me wrong, you can get mods for the 92 but there are not as many out there.

How many miles are on the one you want? It is an SE because they only made the SE in a 5 speed.

its mine now

well if price wasn't a factor, probably would've just got a 4th gen, but it was, and i just bought it for 2 grand, good price? i dunno, its got about 220k on it but it started up fine, and the only 3 problems are a long thin crack that goes across the bottom of the windshield, i need to replace the heater core in the defroster, and the head lights seem dim. i payed for half, my mom the other, so i got a really good deal on it (i hope)

220k is alot of miles but as long as the maintenance was good and it wasn't abused too much then you should be ok. I would definately have the car checked out by a mechanic to give it the once over.

I bought mine with 58k on it and it now only has 85k. But from all that I have heard about maximas, 2-300k is possible.

Good luck

Also, in my last reply I mis-quoted myself about the 5 speed. The SE came with 5 speed or auto but 5 speed was only available in the SE model.

check the dipstick. if it's a yellow stained color it means it sat in unchanged oil. check all your fluid containers. If there is a dark stain line around the edges it means dirty fluid may have sat in their for a prolonged period of time.
Don't worry aout milage. i've seen a 95 se with 250,000+ running strong.
i would reccomend having a compression test done.
