88 Skylark,engine stalls after warm-up

My '88 Buick Skylark stall after the engine is up to operating temperature. Once the engine stalls, it will not restart until the engine completely cools down. A couple of years ago the coils and ignition module were replaced. The car has 65,000 miles on it. I got the car from my grandmother who was the original owner. The spark plugs look to be in good condition. Also, the fuel pressure was checked and is 40 psi. The fuel pressure does not drop when the car stalls. When the car stalls, it sometimes backfires. Does anyone know what the problem is?
thanks,
darrset

What size engine do you have? Have you checked for trouble-codes? If the problem is temp related, check the cts circuit. When the problem occurs, you have good spark at the plugs and injector pulse?

Re: 88 Skylark,engine stalls after warm-up

HI,
Thanks for you help. The engine is a 3.0 L V-6. I do not know how to check the trouble codes. Is this something I can do my self or do I need special diagnostic equipment? My local repair shop wanted $150 to run a check. The cost sounds very high for just plugging in an analyzer. I did not check for spark when the car stalls, I can check it this weekend. What does CTS stand for?
Thanks for you help
Steve

Usually on obd1 GM vehicles, you can jumper the A and B terminals of the data link connector. you just place a small wire between the two terminals, then turn the key on, no crank, just turn the key on till the dash lites come on. The check engine lite should start flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Troublecodes.net has some information on this.

The CTS is the coolent temp sensor. I'm not saying replace it, check it.
