Vehicle Speed Sensor

Does anyone know what symptoms a malfunctioning speed sensor
can cause?

Thanks!

It will probably set a code. It is also used for shifting the transmission, abs functions and displaying the vehicle speed.

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor

Okay... how about tranny slippage? Since it has to do with shifting...

Actually what i have is a human malfunction rather than a VSS malfunction. I
just replaced the dreaded and ever popular sun shell and after remounting
everything i found that i had all the gears working (including reverse) but had some
slipping in the forward gears. I figured that it was because i needed to top off the fluid
but after doing so it still slipped. I scratched my head and picked my nose a few times and was browsing through my Haynes manual and BLAM it hit me... I had not mounted
the VSS to the tranny. Brother-in-law was helping install things and we were sorta
pressed for time and in our rush, well, you know how the story ends... This is why the
VSS question. Also found that in 4X4 LO it don't slip and no slipping in reverse in
4 HI, 4 LO or 2HI but forward slips in 4HI and 2HI.

Thoughts welcomed and thanks for your response!

Dave
