1995 Cavalier 2.2L No start when damp or wet
Hello.
I have a 1995 Cavalier 2.2L with 72,000 miles on it. It had a new head gasket & timing chain & gears almost 2 years ago. A couple of weeks ago it started acting funny and getting harder to start when it was wet or damp outside. There were a couple of mornings when it wouldn't start at all. I have excellent pressure in the coolant system (15 psi) and I have spark & fuel. When it does start, it runs fantastic and my mileage isn't any worse than it was before I started having these problems. I have replaced the coil packs but this didn't help. Any suggestions? Like I said, it only happens when it is raining or damp outside. Thanks in advance. ![]() What I mean by won't start is: it will turn over just fine so I don't think the starter is the problem, but it won't start. It kind of acts like the timing is off but only when it is wet or damp. It is weird. As soon as it dries up outside, it fires right up and runs great. I'm pretty sure it is a connection somewhere, just kinda hoping somebody already had a problem similar and can make a quick diagnosis. Thanks again in advance. Re: 1995 Cavalier 2.2L No start when damp or wet
Does a 95 have a distrbutor? If so check the cap for cracks. If the wires are the culprit you can test when it is running rough, or not starting by spraying WD-40 on the wires where they attach to the cap and or the plugs.

Re: 1995 Cavalier 2.2L No start when damp or wet
Check all the wiring and relays. clean the relay connectors. There are some fuseable links, there is one coming from the battery to the starter, you will want to check that link and make sure it is not shorting. If it is okay, i would replace the starter.
I had the same issue with mine. I cleaned my relays, and it turned out there was a short in my starter. So try that and see how that goes |
