94 Ranger MPG

does anyone know how many mpg a 94 ranger with a 4.0 v6 should be getting? Right now I have done spark plugs and wires, pcv valve, and a oil change. only getting about 11 to 12 mpg. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!

How many miles have you got on the vehicle? Your gas mileage will depend on a lot of things. Assuming that everything with the vehicle is up to par, you should be getting between 16-18 MPG. Get a compression test or a cylinder balance test to begin with to determine status of your rings, valves, etc. If they are way below specs, no sense spending your money on other components. Poor compression could be the main cause of your poor gas mileage.

well 94 2.3L here 5spd ...filled up today and got 470km off 45L works out to 24MPG city highway mix.

my mileage as improved in the last month or so. not sure if its the weather (i.e. not using heat etc) or if the air filter i replaced helped that much.

before i was getting approx 500km+ off the tank.

also i changed the tranny fluid and it was BLACK! would that make a difference??? not sure.

My 1994 Ranger v6 5 speed gets averages 20 mpg in mixed driving 17 to 18 in town and about 23 in hwy only. I can knock a couple mpg off thoses figures if I drive it hard. Plus when its cold {winter] its a little less

My 97 4.0 4X4 was getting 12 mpg. I did everything and couldn't figure it out. Turns out it had a blown head gasket. Check your antifreeze level. I caught mine just in time!

Hows the power output, does it feel slugish? How did the old plugs come out, were they black, or tan. Excessive fuel comsumption could be a number or things, like someone mentioned before compression issues, as well as dirty injectors, incorrect ignition timing which is usually accompanied with low power output. Air induction. Have you replaced your air filter lately? Fuel filter? Are the tires at the proper air pressure? All these affect MPG. I would clean your MAF sensor, this little sucker can cause all sorts of problems. Is the CEL on? Hows the vehicles exhaust any smoke? If yes what color?Sorry to ask all these ? s but right now it could be a lot of things.

The air filter was changed a month and a half ago. antifreeze is fine and circulating. fuel filter has not been changed yet. I think I need to change the tires though. My dad gave me the truck and the only time he changes things is when it is absolutley neccessary. I work 33 miles from home and in five days I spend 100 dollars in fuel alone. About ready to molotov truck. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!11

Istill suggeest you find out what the status of your cylinders are in. If the compression is very low or uneven, there is no sense spending all your time and money with other things that could be wrong. For example if the compression in one or more cylinders is say below 100 (normally around 160-180) no sense replacing all the other things such as filter or tires, etc. because essentially the engine is shot and time to decided what to do with the vehicle. I have a 91 Ranger with 4.0 engine 2WD automatic with 150,000+ mile and it will get 24MPG on a trip and about 18 to 20 mixed driving.

Also bear in mind that the style of driving particularly high acceleration plus the extra weight in your truck have significant effect on your mileage. Ball park figure is for every 100 lbs extra weight your gas mileage go down by a mile a gallon.

I have a 94 ranger 4x4 4.0 v6 automatic and with a bad tranny I was getting around 18 mpg. 200,000 miles..I got the tranny fixed and i'm hoping the mpg will improve from it
