Clutch / trans nightmear

I have a 1993 non turbo FWD eagle talon with a clutch that is giving me alot of greif. I took my car to the transmission shop were the trans was rebuilt but now i can not get my clutch to work.. the previous owenr had replaced the orginal clutch with an aftermarket high proformance one witch will not grab on the fly wheel. The clutch listed in parts manuals will not fit eather now. The clutch seems to be too far away from the fly wheel to grip so the fly wheel was shimmed but couldnt be shimmed forward enough to grab still. All this work is beeing done by professionals and they now have no clue what is wrong with the car eather. ( pedal cluster, slaves, all hydrulic elemnts of the cluch have been replaced ) anyone got any ideas?

Re: Clutch / trans nightmear

Did you adjust the clutch pedal?

Re: Clutch / trans nightmear

Why does this sound like they used a non-modular clutch and kept the modular flywheel? The clutch should bolt right up to the flywheel and pressure plate. If it's being "shimmed" out, there's obviously something not right there. It's a direct bolt up, so there should be no modifying of the flywheel. Maybe it wasn't resurfaced?

Re: Clutch / trans nightmear

Sounds like the flywheel could have been resurfaced past it's service limits. You shouldn't have to shim anything.

make sure the clutch has been bled.

Can you explain this a little more???

Is the clutch making the transmission grind? (that would mean that the clutch isn't fully releasing, which could possibly be a bent clutch fork or a pivot, or an improperly bled clutch or improperly adjusted pedal)

Is the clutch not engaging, meaning you let off the clutch and the car goes nowhere??? (again, could be a bent clutch fork, or bent pressure plate)

What all did they replace with the clutch? The whole clutch or just the disc? (the whole clutch would be a kit consisting of a clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and a clutch alignment tool)
