Transmissions

Is it totally unreasonable to try putting a 4or 5 speed (manual) in my 99 P71? I really like old full size muscle cars like mid sixties pontiacs and fords, and a four on the floor with a plain white ball shift knob would be perfect. i've heard the mustang tranny will hook up to the 4.6 in my car, but looking at mustangs (except for 05 and newer) the shift lever is so far forward you bang your hand on the ac controls with a quick shift to 1, 3, or 5th., so being that the crown vic is longer, would that amplify that issue? Before you say just get a mustang, I love my P71 and plan on keeping it forever until it turns back to iron oxide, of course being in Michigan it may be sooner than later. If you do know anyone who is willing to do such an operation let me know, because ive heard it can be done but no one wants to do it. Thanks, Tyler Viher of TVCustoms

Re: Transmissions

I have been thinking about this as well, although I have been looking at 5 ans 6 speed Transmissions. maybe a Tremec T6 (although I'll probably need to do a motor swap to a 5.4 to make it realy worth while.)
