Oil in Air Filter Box

Anybody ever notice a significant amount of oil in the bottom of their air filter box?
There is a hose coming from the valve cover to the air filter box that on other cars would have a PCV valve in it somewhere. At the end of that hose inside the air filter box is a sponge filter similar to a lawn mower type air filter. It was saturated with oil and allowing it to drip into the bottom of the box. When I tried to clean it, it disintegrated. I replaced it with another similar piece of foam I had laying around. There is still a little bit of oil showing up on the foam filter.

Question is: Did I put to much oil in on the last oil change? Or, is there a problem somewhere?

Why is there no PCV valve?

I assume it has to do with the turbo and crankcase pressure.

Anybody know anything about this?

Thanks
Mark

Thumbs up Re: Oil in Air Filter Box

My air filter was quite wet at about 18000 klms. Never noticed any oil loss though. PCV valve can do it, but Many have the same problem. Just clean it out with soap water and a shop vac, and put the proper filters in. Keep a eye on your oil. Depends alot on your milage for sure and a plugged pcv well cause plenty of trouble, especially in winter months for you can blow seals.
Good luck

Re: Oil in Air Filter Box

Most likely the turbo is causing blow by in the engine because of its positive pressure capabilities so a little oil slips out the pvc valve (try a new one).
