Smile New to GP few maintainance question

Hi in a few week I will properly pick up a grand prix gt model around 97-03. Here a few question about maintaince the cars.

What oil weight and filter is the best for this type of car ?
What spark plug and gap with wire is the best for this car ?
What tranny oil brand with filter is the best for this car ?
What should I need to know before I pick up a GP ?

thanks every one.

The recommended viscosity is 10W-30 or 5W-30 when temperature is below 60 degrees F. Any brand oil that meets or exceeds GM requirements will work to include synthetic. Any oil filter like AC Delco, Wix, Purolator, K&N etc. with the exception of Fram.

AC Delco spark plugs (double platinum or iridium) are recommended but you can use other brands like NGK or Autolite. Gap is .060. For stock the AC Delco Premium Silicone 7mm ignition wires.

Best to stay with dino ATF, Dextron-III. The AC Delco brand screen filter.

Like any used car run it through the mill. Make sure there is no SES light or other idiot lights on and run an odb-ii scanner to see if there are any stored history DTCs. Check for oil leaks around the valve covers and underneath (rear main seal). The tranny is a known or common problem area so make sure car shifts properly and smoothly. No hard shifts or whining.

I heard it was introduced around April 2005 and then GM started using Dextron-VI in the 2006 model year with certain GM cars like the Z06 Corvette, trucks and other vehicles. Supposedly works good in the new Hydra-Matic 6L80, six-speed automatic transmission and exceeds the Dextron III (H) specs. I don't know if I would use in a 4T65E autotransaxle but it sounds interesting. I've seen Castrol's version of it at the auto parts stores.

Any GM dealer <--expensive, AC Delco Authorized Parts Distributor and alot of AC Delco stuff shows up on EBay for bid. GMPartsDirect.com for parts web site.

Autozone and/or Advance Auto carry the AC Delco spark plugs. PM me for a good AC Delco parts source most of us use. I can't post it due to our vendor and advertising rules.

Re: New to GP few maintainance question

No. It uses a standard timing chain on the crank and camshaft. No adjustment or maintenance necessary.
