01 malbiu strut mounts 81000 mls

Hi all, I was told that my frt. struts needed to be replaced so I did cost $360.00 at Mieneke, this did not fix the problem, and now I am told I need my strut mounts also replaced. Midas wants $476.00 to replace them, I have a noise coming from the frt right mount like crunching when you make turns. I think I will try this on my own. Any advice would be welcomed.

Re: 01 malbiu strut mounts 81000 mls

1st I would wonder why they thought replacing the struts and not the upper strut mounts, and presumably the springs, was the right way to handle it.

The upper strut mount is way more likely to make that noise on turns than the struts themselves. It goes away on successive turns in the same direction, right?

It would seem like a waste to not reuse the new struts, but pulling apart a strut assembly can be very dangerous.

If you want to do it yourself, Advance has a "quick strut" that has everything already put together for $200 each. So you save on paying the shop to put the new parts on the existing struts, but pay more in parts since you're buying two new struts in the process.

One last thing, did that $476 include an alignment? If so I'd probably let them do it. You'd come even with that number once you buy the strut assemblies and get the alignment, and you get to watch somebody else do it.
