Question A/C in a 93 berretta

I am considering getting my air condition fixed in my car ,I am not sure where to start looking for where the leaks may be ,i had soeone fill the system last year with Redtek refrigerant and it worked for a few days ,but could not locate where the leak was ,the compressor worked fine . How do they test lines at a shop ????. and would it be worth the expense

thanks

When checking an A/C system for leaks, you can use a "sniffer" which pulls a stream of air through the machine and beeps when it detects refrigerant. The method I prefer is using UV dye. You add the bottle to the A/C system, and then charge it. Run the A/C for about 10 minutes, then shut it off. Use a black light and yellow goggles, and the dye will glow a bright green. If you don't see green, drive it normally until it quits or gets warm, then re-check it.

At my shop, we charge an hour to diagnose it, plus the cost of dye and refrigerant. From there it could be $1,000 depending on what's wrong. Whether or not it's worth it is up to you, I personally would roll the window down.
