hub not pulling out

Hello all. My g/f's 2000 impala needs a right hub the beering are gone im pretty sure the hub and bearing are sealed on this car. I got every thing off. took the three bolt out from back side and hub is hanging. I got the puller but it was for a ford. guy must have got my car and her car mixed up. He told me they are all the same. I doubt it but took it anyway. The puller should sit flush with the hub right and then put lug nut on to hold puller to the studs on the hub and then the screw threw the middle of the puller to push spindel as hub is being pulled? is there a trick to getting this off. I was twisting screw whith my rachet so much it wouldn't go any more and arms where shaking like a s.o.b

Re: hub not pulling out

I usually use the handle of a baby sledge to tap the axle back thru the hub, then remove the hub, never used a puller.

Re: hub not pulling out

I never tried it becouse some one told me if I do that it will Poss. mess up the cv joints?????? I just want to get it out. I don't want here to have the tire fall off and we can't really afford to pay some one. This one guy up the street.(corner store with a 2 bay garage says 50 bucks an hour and about 3 hours. I told him I had the car up with my jack and every thing off in about 10 minuts only thing left was to pull hub off spindleand slide new one on. He said he has to take the whole suspension off. Last time I ask him for any advice. Ill try a rubber sludge bang it from the rear u don't think it will damage axle or cv joints? I do all my own work so I know thing arn't alway as easy as books say they are.....so maybe just plain old labor to get it off. There no like washer or locking clips between the spoindle and old hub preventing it dfrom coming off right? I didn't see any and haynes book don't mention it.

Re: hub not pulling out

I think I just banged it off with a sledge hammer when I did my 2000. Was pretty difficult but it will come off.

Re: hub not pulling out

Use PB blaster or other quality penetrant, it will help to free up the axle's splined shaft from the hubs splined hole.

Re: hub not pulling out

I will. Ill have to go get the the hub again needed the money so brought it back. Ill just spray the hell out of it and keep tapping it. Should I push in a little on the spline to make sure I don't hit the hub to hard and mess up CV joint. Just woundering becouse book say to be carefull to not pull on the spline to much it could mess up cv joint? I never really had front wheel drive before. or will it take allot of pounding to dislocate the cv joint or what ever the book meant by damaging cv joint if I hit the hub to hard?
