Re: chugges at steady speed

This translates to a misfire? Check fuel pressure at the rail, check for strong spark on all 6 cylinders.

Re: chugges at steady speed

Sounds like the problem I and a lot of others are having. I am believe mine is a transmission problem. A lot of others have done other things and it cleared it up. Tried unhooking the battery?

Re: chugges at steady speed

I have a 1996 bonn sse and I am having a similar problem. Let me start by saying the problem I am having doesn't seem to appear until the car warms up just beyond the first line after the 200 degree mark. This morning it didn't happen until 45 min. into my ride to work when I hit the wall of traffic. Try to accellerate and I get the chugging. Plugs and wires replaced maybe 6 months ago. Last night I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and air filter. Any ideas?

Re: chugges at steady speed

Has anyone really gotten a handle on this problem yet. I have been living with it for over a year now. Have tried many of the items mentioned in this thread with no help.

Re: chugges at steady speed

Someone has to find a solution to this problem, because lord knows it wont be me and i share this problem with you guys. I notice that if i cycle through my gears while driving, (1-2-D), it cuts down on the slippage and chugging so that leads me to believe its a tranny problem. I do however want to try atleast one solution to the problem before i finalize that its my tranny. Fuel pump and filter maybe? I guess it somewhat feels like maybe not enough fuel is getting to the engine when i stomp on it but i dont know seems like wishfull thinking to me i think my trannys goin... also if i start the car after it has been off for over 10 hours, my tranny wont engage immediatly if i start the car and put it into reverse or drive. Takes about 8-10 seconds, and revving the engine seems to speed up the process greatly. Any ideas on anything fellas?

Re: chugges at steady speed

I have a 94 bonneville going steady speed and hit an incline the car chugs alot, very bad sometimes. We went to a garage, had the injectors cleaned that didn't work. Went to a wrecking yard and got the full rail with injectors and put them on. Have put about 70 km on the car and seems to be working great. Good Luck!!

Re: chugges at steady speed

The problem is the transmission valve body, there is a tsb out about it..i dont remember the number off the top of my head. I had the same problem with my 97 and my parents also had this problem on their 97... I broke down and took mine to a pontiac dealer to have it repaired, it cost me about $1300, but it runs like a champ now havent had any chugging issues in over 9 months now.
