1999 3.8 Windstar CMP housing setting

A friends mother owns the van, 1999 Windstar 3.8, and he has removed the cam position sensor, but he has removed the whole housing. They were told the CMP needed to be changed, so he pulled it out, housing and all. I got a hold of the tool to install the housing, but I do not know where the engine needs to be to install, I have read a few different answers and I would just like to be sure. I cannot find a marking on the pulley or balancer like some places suggest. Can I simply put the engine at TDC and install it that way, or does it need to be somewhere else, like some have suggested 26 degrees after. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: 1999 3.8 Windstar CMP housing setting

1) #1 at TDC of compression stroke
2) Install the synchronizing tool on the camshaft synch until it engages in the notch in the cmshaft housing
3) Install the cmshft housing assembly so the arrow on the synchro positioning tool is 54 degrees from centerline of the engine.
4) Install and tighten synch hold down bolt
4) Install cmp sensor to cmshaft synchronizer
