95 LeSabre Hesitates During Heavy Acceleration
95 LeSabre Hesitates During Heavy Acceleration (3.8L)
59,000miles. Noticed today during heavy acceleration it feels and sounds like 1 or 2 or 3 cylinders seem to drop out and acceleration stops. Release the pedal a bit and power kicks back in, and acceleration resumes. Wife says it did this since the beginning (January 2007 - 57,000mi). I'm going to change plugs and wires because of this and hope that will solve the problem. I welcome any comments regarding this. Thanks! I'll post again once I change the plugs and wires. |

Re: 95 LeSabre Hesitates During Heavy Acceleration
Plugs & wires are a good start. If the problem persist, you need to change the fuel filter and check the coil resistance. Coils should read on the primary side near 0.5-0.9 (ohms) & secondary side (k-ohm) 5.0-8.0.
I usually use an old spark plug gapped to .250 connected to the spark plug end of the ignition wire & grounded. While cranking the engine, observe the plug for spark. If you see a crisp blue spark, the ignition coil is working properly. If you only see a pale yellow spark, more than likely, you have a weak coil. I have seen quite a few coils that would pass the resistance test, however, not produce max voltage output.

Re: 95 LeSabre Hesitates During Heavy Acceleration
Changed the plugs to Autolite Platinum (old plugs looked original-AC Delco), changed the wires to Autozone's cheapest (Xact-spelling?) which also looked original. Test drove: Wow, car really performs. Thought it was doing well cause it was cold so let it warm up and test drove it again: Nice! No hesitation.
Then I changed the fuel filter. All is well. I love that car! ( I drive a 96 Olds Ciera Wagon - 3.1 6 cylinder ). |
