LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Paris Hilton is "emotionally distraught and traumatized" over her 45-day jail sentence and is not capable of testifying in a civil lawsuit against her, the socialite-reality TV star's psychiatrist said.
Dr. Charles Sophy has been seeing Hilton, 26, for the past eight months and has talked with her several times since her May 4 hearing for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case, according to court papers.
Sophy said Hilton needs time to recover from the shock of receiving jail time before testifying in a civil case brought against her by actress and diamond heiress Zeta Graff.
Messages left with Hilton's spokesman and lawyer were not immediately returned early Tuesday.
In court papers filed Monday, Sophy said Hilton is "distraught and traumatized as a consequence of the findings at the May 4 hearing ... and her fear of incarceration."
"At this point in time," he continued, "Ms. Hilton cannot effectively respond to examination as a witness or provide any significant input into her defense."
Graff filed a $10 million lawsuit against Hilton in 2005, claiming the reality TV star spread "vicious lies" about her. Hilton has denied that she was behind a report alleging Graff once tried to grab a necklace worth $4 million from her throat.
Superior Court Judge Linda K. Lefkowitz postponed the trial to August. It had been scheduled to begin this month.
Hilton and her pal Nicole Richie star on "The Simple Life," which throws them into everyday situations. After famously feuding and filming their parts separately last season, the celebutantes have reunited as camp counselors for the show's upcoming fifth installment.

Bummer. I guess "The Simple Life" isn't so simple any more.

Amazing how quickly this thread has turned into a testosterone-fueled display of adolescent fantasy. A man will walk on Mars before any of you were in a position to make such a decision.

Paris Hilton is going to jail for offences that have been proven against her. That's good enough for me. I don't give a flying fart what her shrink says, or how much she paid him to say it. Nor do I care whether it is true or not. The law applies equally to every citizen.To try and argue that she is emotionally ill-equipped for jail is to state the obvious.Jail is not supposed to be 'nice'. 45 days sentence will equate to about 2 weeks jail time after parole. Should be just enough to convince an idiot [rich or poor] that when a judge orders you not to drive for a set period of time, the alternative to doing as you are told makes disobedience unappealing. This is not 'cruel and unusual' punishment, this is a deterrent sentence designed to ensure that the offender takes the judicial system more seriously in the future. It may be golden material for the tabloids, but there are thousands of other offender locked up every year for similar offences, so as far as I can see, it was a predictable and avoidable outcome.

Personally, I'm glad she is traumatized. It's about time she realized that she is bound by the same laws as the rest of society. She violated her parole (for drunk driving, for which she got off incredibly lightly) and now must pay the price. Trauma instead of drama.

The headline should read, "Rich heiress gets dose of reality". She belongs in jail. Quityerbitchin and do your time. She's whining about 45 DAYS. It's not a couple of years, it's a month and a half.

As far as her attractiveness, I've always thought she was skanky, and now with her statement that she brings excitement and beauty to us poor, poor regular people, I definitely dislike her even more.
