Re: 1998 jeep wrangler soft top removal needed
Do you mean to remove it completely or fold it down?
Let's see if I can recall how to fold it (I had a 97) At the top of the windshield(behind the visors), loosen the clips that hold the top, but leave the hooks in the holes in the frame. Open the doors, and pull the zippered windows straight up and out of the doors. Roll up the back window and put it in the fabric loops that should be dangling from the top bar near the back. Find the zipper for the rear side windows, and unzip them, removing the windows. You'll also have to slide the bottom stays out of the groove on the body. Press down slightly on each top rear corner, and slide the stays out of the corner of the top where they're attached to the body. Over where the doors are, there are two plastic pieces on each side, running along over the door sill. You'll have to rotate these out of their slots to free the top. (Hard to describe, you'll see it when you get there) Once all this is done, the top should be loose. Unhook the two clips at the top of the windshield, and start folding the top back. Make sure at this point to tuck in the two rear corners and fold the top into/behind the back seat (a little trial and error will help you to find the best way to fold it) PUtting it back up is harder and will take about 3x as much time the first time you do it; just reverse the procedure above. Hope that helps!
