Twin Cam?

What is it for?One of my friends drives a '01 eclipse spyder, and he's a cool guy,and he was pretty impressed by my s14,but he said my car is faster then his when he saw the "TWIN CAM" it has written on the engine. What does it really mean, and how does it change the performance of the car?

I'm new to this so keep any jackass replies to yourselves please.

twin cam
there is a cam for the exhaust and a came for the intake. this makes it easier to advance and retard timing. you can do the adjustments to each cam at a time. it makes it a little easier. and i never seen a SOHC engine with 4 valves for each cylinder. i could be wrong about this so don't mark my words on it. but more valves mean more power. more airfuel mixture and less restriction on the exhaust.
hope that helps...

puttin just a tip on is like stuffin a sock in your pants, you are still small behind that

hahahah there are plenty of engines with single over head cams with 4 valves per head. the corolla GT-S with the 4AGE engine in it has 4 valves and that motor was built in 1985!. the honda D series engine, the F series engine found on the 4 cylinder accords. in fact those are SOHC 20 valve v-tec motors. but what those SOHC v-tec really basically just equals DOHC ( duel over head cams, or twin cams) the only down fall that i see in DOHC is that when you want to upgrade to hotter cams or to a different cam gear timing. holy shit!! its like you gotta buy 2 cam shafts for 300 each!! when those SOHC guys only need to pay 300 flat. but those SOHC with 4 valves per head can have just as much flow as a DOHC motor if tuned right.

the 4AG is DOHC....
Anyway the main advantage to DOHC over SOHC is combustion chamber shape. Yup..its due to the fact that now the spark plig can be placed right in the middle of the combustion chamber and hence make a better flame front and a more even burn...which as we all know makes more power...easy
