Red for a firebird?

Is red a nice color for a firebird? I hear it will oxidize in the sun. Which is kinda bad knowing that I live in Texas and the summers are brutal. Im thinkin about puttin some yellow, black, or gray rally stripes. This is a base V6 firebird, nothing spiffy like my dad's 2001 Transam with ram air or w/e I will be gettin flow masters and an intake if they make it for 6cylinders Thanks!

Re: Red for a firebird?

the color has nothing to do with it rusting.... the quality of the paintjob does. Whoever said red will make it oxidized should have a foot forcibly inserted so far up their ass they can taste it

Re: Red for a firebird?

Dark color cars (not ONLY but including red) absorb more UV, wich causes them to oxidize at a faster rate. Its not what color its how dark it is.

Re: Red for a firebird?

^ agreed. Just make sure you get a high quality paint job though, or ANY color will get messed up in the sun.

Re: Red for a firebird?

True. If you dont have at least $1,000 to spend on paint dont bother, ESPECIALLY with red paint. Red turns to PINK once it oxidizes real good.

Re: Red for a firebird?

yeah my 92 firebird is red... however the paint is original which is why its faded... im getting it repainted this week however... red with black racing stripes... but im purposely getting a medium grade paintjob instead of a high quality one because im getting a new ram air hood within the next few months... so ill do the high quality stuff then... but i just wanted the paint looking decent before school starts... (gotta impress those ladies ya know)
