95 Grand Am 3.1 litre, codes and EGR
My wife's 95 Grand Am, 3100, as of late has been burning a bit more fuel than normal. The service engine light comes on but my reading on tis car and year states that the only way to get a code is by taking it in to a shop.
Three questions... 1.) Is there any way to retrieve the codes without taking it to a garage as I live an hour away from any form of real civilization? 2.) I'm thinking EGR, would most agree? 3.) Is the EGR a pain to get to on this make and year? I was told it was but haven't looked yet. Trying to get a feel of what I am getting myself in to here. SlugHog |

Re: 95 Grand Am 3.1 litre, codes and EGR
Burning more fuel could be its in need of a tune up and or the O2 sensors are failing.
Your car could be a hybrid ODB I/II or it could be ODB II. So either would need to be read with the proper scann tool. Other wise you're just secound guessing.

Re: 95 Grand Am 3.1 litre, codes and EGR
What I have done is new plugs, wires, air cleaner, O2 sensor(there's only one that I have found), and changed the oil. But you are correct as havig it read is the only way to be sure.
Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated. SlugHog |
