2007 Accent-No cruise control??

My wife drives 80 per day to work and drives a GMC Envoy that get's 16mpg. We have been looking for a smaller car and was hoping to find one that could almost double her mileage. I have looked at most of them and we like the 07 Accent. The one thing about the car that's a little strange is the lack of cruise control. The other small cars lack this also. Why is this? If I could get an aftermarket one installed I would but have yet to find one. Is there one made for it? My other problem with the body style of the Accent it looks like the doors would be very easy to get a door ding. Is there enough protection that would stop a ding? Once again I would buy something that would give the door better protection. Our Envoy has a nice door strip that protects it but the Accent looks like it does not. Is there a body kit I could buy that would protect the doors? Many thanks for your input!

You are in the same situation I was in. My wife drives the same miles as yours does, and was driving an '06 Envoy, getting 17mpg. I ended up just buying a '96 Accord that I got a good deal on that was traded in here at our dealership. Anyways, I know Ziebart has put cruise control on a couple cars that the sales dept has sold before. How good of a system it is, I don't know, as I never saw the finished result, I just write the purchase order. Why the Accent doesn't come with cruise, I don't know. I didn't believe it myself, so I just walked our lot, and sure enough, not an option. Looks like you have to upgrade to the Elantra to get it. Which, I am driving an '07 Elantra as a demo right now and get 32-34mpg out of it. How much better than Accent actually is, I don't know though. But if you are dead set on the Accent, might want to call Ziebart and see what they say.

Thanks for the info! Actually i'm looking at the Elantra also because it is bigger and it does have cruise control. The mpg seems to be very close also. So maybe getting the Elantra would be the way to go. If a person could double there mileage(Not hard if your driving an Envoy)your a fool if you don't do it. I plan on keeping the car for 10 years so in the short and long run it will save money. The advantage to the Envoy is the size but no matter what your only going to get 17 mpg. Overall how do you like the Elantra? Does it in fact get over 30 mpg on a regular basis? We use to own a 2000 Neon(Traded that in for the Envoy)and city driving it was ok and would get 23-26 mpg but interstate driving with the air on half the time it would do 38 mpg. My wifes commute is all interstate driving so doubleing her mileage would be very simple. And if you cut your daily gas bill in half that's as good as a pay raise. Does the 07 Elantra ride and drive better than the 05 and 06 model? I just checked and I can find an 05 Elantra fully optioned out in the $8000 to $11000 price range. Most of them have 30,000 to 41,000 miles on them. So if I go that route I would still get some warranty. Thanks for your input!

I actually really do like the Elantra. The electric steering takes some getting used to, but once you do, you don't notice it. I think the worst mileage I've gotten is 31, but it's usually 33-35 range. I drive 23 miles each way to and from work, but I take a different route home than I take going to. Less traffic in the mornings taking back roads. On my way to work, I'm only on the interstate for about 10 miles, rest is all back roads. 2 school zones, with speed limits of 30. Rest is speed limit 40-50, and total of about 5 stoplights. Way home, 23 miles, 21 interstate, and I'm doing 70-80mph at that point. Overall, I'm very happy with the mileage. One of my techs said one of the trailers at Hyundai was driving one as a company car, and with all interstate driving, he was getting close to 40mpg. Prior to this I was driving an '07 Suzuki XL7, which I was getting 19-20. Right now I've got 3500 miles on the Elantra. I get a new demo every 4500. The one I'm driving is a Limited, with leather, and everything. I might take another Elantra as my next demo, but I think we're running low on the Limited, so I might just take an SE. Doesn't really matter to me. However, it is summer, so I'm also thinking of a Tiburon. Mileage is a little worse, but much funner to drive.

Compared to the '01-06 Elantra, hard to say. I like the looks of the '04-'06 better than the '07. The sharper body lines appeal to me more than the rounded ones. Ergonomics, I like them both equally. The '07 has a much smoother and calmer look to it than the older ones. I had an Elantra GT hatchback as a demo once, but it's been a couple years, and I don't remember much about it. I think mileage was about the same back then too. But I was in a different house then, all interstate driving, but a lot of the morning comute was sitting in traffic for 15-20 minutes to go the first 3 miles. I live in Indy, and my wife is commited to her job here for a couple more years. I was considering a job offer in Iowa, and if I did take it, I was going to buy an Elantra to make the commutes back here every other weekend. But that didn't pan out, so I'm still here.

I will be honest with you I like the body style of the 05 Elantra much better than the new one. So much in fact If I choose to go with the Elantra I won't buy a new one. The 07 Elantra is simply to "round" for my taste. It looks a little like the previous Tiberon and I think that was an ugly car. Now the newer Tibs are very,very sharp looking. I was on Ebay and saw one with the yellow paint and it was dang nice. White looks good on it also. How do you like driving the Tiberon? I would think that if I ever got one it would have to be the GT with the 6 speed manual. I sure hope they don't mess to much with the Tiberons body style because I think it's "perfect" just the way it is. For some reason you never see any of them around(Cedar Rapids,Iowa)this area. Right now i'm going to go check on a 05 Elantra with 28,000 miles and the asking price is $7850. I'm told I can't get the 100,000 powertrain warranty but I would still get the remainder of the 60,000 mile warranty and that's not to bad. Heck I think most Chevy's you only get the 3 year/36k mile warranty. That's not very good. Thanks for your posts.

I would agree with you on the looks of the Elantra. The Tiburon, the '05-'06 were definately the best styled ones. The '07s don't look nearly as aggressive. Most think they are just plain "ugly" but they are starting to grow on me. '05-'06s definately look good though. The Tiburon is a fun car to drive. I've had 2 as demos over the years. Both autos because they won't let us have manuals for our demos. I don't care either way, as long I get a car to drive. It is true that the 100k mile powertrain warranty isn't transferrable to the 2nd owner, but you can always buy an extended warranty from the dealer you buy it from. You will retain the 5yr60k bumper to bumper, and thats what the powertrain drops to as well. The aftermarket warranties usually aren't as good as the Hyundai one, and there is usually a deductible you will have to pay, but it's better than no warranty.
