number for the door key pad in the trunk?

I just bought a 1999 taurus. The dealer did not have the code for entry or the remote. My wife was reading the manual and it mentioned that the code can be found on a computer box in the trunk. I looked all over the trunk and I did not find the computer let alone a code. Can anyone help me locate this computer on code? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Re: number for the door key pad in the trunk?

On my 1998 SHO the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module was located under the dash, just about above the accelerator pedal. The 5-digit code was on a sticker affixed to the vertical side of the box which was difficult to see due to being sandwiched very closely to another module of similar size. It took closing one eye and a bright flashlight to be able to focus on the sticker and read the code.

This topic has been addressed NUMEROUS times on this forum, so if you don't find the module under the dash either, search this forum for specifics to a 1999. The pre-1996 models had the RAP in the trunk, but 1996-1999 should all be under the dash I believe.

Here is a diagram of the location of your ,odule. It should be directly above the accelerator pedal. It is at A-4

If you bought it from a Ford dealer, I believe they can pull it out of the pcm.. I haven't been able to find this procedure in any of my books or discs though.. my local dealer told me this.. as above noted there should be stickers with it.

The dealer and some high end aftermarket scan tools can pull the code from the diagnostic port, but they will usually charge quite a bit for this "service."

Come see me. I purchased the tool and can get it for ya. Of course by the time you get here, you will probably have spent more than the dealer would charge for the gasoline.

Re: number for the door key pad in the trunk?

I'm thinking around 100 bucks probably, at today's prices,, I just find it funny that I can find no mention of how to do it, even in the factory books, unless I'm missing it entirely, or it's performed under some other function.

It is in the WDS system or newer. Unless you are familiar with the newer Ford diagnostic systrems, you won't find it. You need to go into the PATS module and look at the tests. I bought the PDS systam and am working on trying to justify the laptop version. PDS was 3K. Laptop about same. But I got 2 years free updates.

Re: number for the door key pad in the trunk?

Wow! thanks for the Information! I'll take a look under the dash and see what I come up with. But being a 99 it could still have it in the trunk. If that was the case where would it be located. I have the factory CD in the truck is it near it? I also have located the fuel pump switch but I havn't seen anything else. But I've been known to miss things from time to time.

It won't be in the trunk on yours. It will be under the dash as shown in the diagram in post #3.

On the pre-1996 Taurii, it was located under the package tray, mounted to the upper left of center of the seat back. Black box about 4 inches by 5 inches or so.
