Howling occurs when I turn the steering wheel
So after replacing the turn signal switch as laid out in this thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...27#post4757327 I think I screwed up the steering. Everytime I turn the steering wheel now, there is a terrible howling. I'm afraid I messed up something when I was cranking the wheel around to remove the screws as indicated here: http://www.clubgp.com/cgi-asp/mods.asp?modid=141 It's pretty loud and quite embarrasing. I can't tell where it is coming from either. It sounds like maybe the power steering pulley, but I didn't touch anything but the steering wheel and column. The only reason I opened the hood was to disconnect the battery. Man, I hope this is nothing too serious. ![]() Any ideas what I screwed up? Thanks, GT |

Re: Howling occurs when I turn the steering wheel
I doubt seriously that you did anything to the steering when you changed the switch. I would however, check the fluid in the pump and try to isolate where the noise is coming from. It could be a coincidence that the pump is going bad, you could also have rack problems too but I doubt it. My guess would be an issue with a wheel bearing going bad and that is causing the howling you hear. Does the noise come from one side or another or does it come from the steering wheel itself? Any additional information would be quite helpful.

Re: Howling occurs when I turn the steering wheel
Well, good news. It doesn't see to be doing it this morning, at least not near as bad. I will continue to keep an eye/ear on it and see what happens. Driving it around a little last night helped too I think.
Thanks. GT |
