Question major issues

as you can tell by the thread title.. i have major issues... issue #1 the idle.. it starts off a little over 1k when i start the car.. hovers around between 1-2k randomly.. then goes up past 3k and i shut it off to keep from causing larger problems... issue #2 when the car is running coolant sprays.. actually kinda squirts out of the head between the head and intake manifold... so i shut it off... its really hot around the thermostat housing but the radiator up front is cold.. the coolant pipe seems fine.. #3 with the clutch fully depress shifting into a gear.. theres a grinding noise... #4 it doesnt always seem like all 4 gears are there in the shifter.. i can find reverse everytime.. but 1 2 3 4 are all a crapshoot.. i bought the fiero for $100 a few days ago.. took it completly apart because i was told it had a blown head gasket.. it didnt.. replaced it anyway.. now i have those issues.. help me

Re: major issues

Which motor and what year car? That will help with issues 1 and 2. As for #3, sounds like either your clutch isn't disengaging all the way or your transmission is toast. #4 sounds like loose shifter cables at the transmission or your shifter is worn out. I'll take a guess at #1k, if its a 4cyl it could possibly be a bad fuel injector, vacuum leak, or a bad intake gasket. #2 could be a bad hose or a bad intake gasket. I'd start with the intake gasket first, make sure there are no missing pieces and the mating surfaces are clean and not nicked. Good luck.

Re: major issues

update: fixed the coolant leak in the head.. it was a gasket problem.. refilled transmisson.. it works... better.. barely gear two doesnt like to engage often.. thirds hard to get into.. fourth fine once ur in third.. and now i have a major water pump leak.. i tightened all the bolts down i could see.. but the longer i run the car the more it leaks when i shut it off.. i run the car for a minute or two.. it leaks a little.. i go around the block.. a lot of leaks.. anyone got an idea thats not rediculously hard or expensive?

Re: major issues

Sounds like your waterpump is leaking. Look at the weep hole in the bottom of the pump after you run it. If its leaking from there, replace the pump. Could also be a bad gasket as well. Look real close at the areas where the pump meets the engine block. Coolant leaves residue, so it shouldn't be hard to find.

Re: major issues

well im sure you know what the engine on a fiero looks like.. the water pump is one of the least accessable parts.. so its not easy to see where its leaking from.. i just know its leaking.. its 2 years old with a lifetime warranty.. but it just really hard to see
