Skyline

Damnit...everybody is ruining this car...just like Hondas.

Skylines (and Hondas for that matter) are great cars, but they're NOT the ONLY car worth revering, they're not THAT good...

Sorry, just had to rant, was just in a conversation earlier today with a guy that knew practically nothing about cars, and he was very offensive in making sure I knew that nothing in the world is better than a Skyline or Honda Civic.....

The Skyline is the ultimate road vehicle, and in the world of the Skyline, none shall pass the mighty GT-D!

Seriously though, because they were never made in left-hand drive(correct me if I am mistaken),only a handful of aftermarket-converted Skylines have made into the American markets, usuallyn only the more expensive high-performance models...in civilised countries[i.e. right-hand drive ] the Skyline is available in a multitude of specs from Godzilla to Granny-wagon.........

Skylines WERE dream cars for me- until the faggots (namely teh G.I and South Auckland lot) got thier hands on them. They are nice cars- but there is better

Same goes for Civic- Speaking of people who don't know shit about cars- I will always remember One guy I saw- who claimed he owned a 500bhp Twin Turbo Mazda Famillia V8 - The funny part was- it was stock- and Wasn't even a DOHC Mazda Turbo :silly2: :silly2: :silly2:

It's okay Heep. I know what you mean.

Down under we have the two hill tribes, Ford and Holden. And we have a fanatical following for Holdens. And as a result we have all sorts of folk bagging their respective opposition's make. And we get the same ridiculous assertions flying all over the place. My car is better because... it won the race on Sunday etc etc. All Ford's suck. Why do you own a Ford do like being a loser etc...

It's deadly boring esp when I actually support the drivers as opposed to the cars themselves on the race track. At last year's V8 Supercar meeting I took one of my friends who is a sworn Holden Fan into the pits during one of the races when the pits are 'controlled' ie no public and showed him the two leading teams cars. He was astounded to see the difference between the road cars and the race cars and just how similar the two race cars were (they're kind of like NASCAR).

Most of my friends know I drive a variety of cars - and being an enthusiast I try to give them a balanced opinion based on my experiences with a car. And I'm really tired about hearing about people's opinions formed by what their mate said or what they see on a race track. Or they compare one model of car as being representative of an entire range eg Nissan GTR as the whole Skyline Range or the Civic Type R VTEC as being representative of the base model.

I think the decision to buy is based on your own circumstances, needs and preferences. Assigning a halo effect is part of marketing but I'm over it and I'm over ill-informed opinions - tell me what you know not what you've heard.

Heep = :ylsuper :ylsuper !!!

But this could get interesting when the skyline owners decied to voice an opinion.

Just like Holdens, and Fords (gm vs ford) and during the 80s Rotorys fans, then Mazda fans, and more recently Honda, Toyota and Nissan fans, there are Fanatics in every group. And skyline owners are no exception.
For what ever reason they think that just becasue a GTR is one of the worlds best preformance cars, then all Skyline models are also in the same league. Whethers its a GTE or a GTS-t. If it has a Skyline badge then it must be the same as a GTR.
The same thing happens with Honda's, the number of dick heads out there who think thier LXi civic is on par with a Type R never ceases to amaze me.

Forunatly most poeple are a bit more rational than the minority as described above, but unforunatly like regligous groups it is the fanatics who are the most out spoken, and who end up being percieved by the general population as the sterotype Honda or Skyline or Holden etc etc owner.

But my VW Jetta GL IS on par witht the W12 Concept car :finger:

Moppie- surely the most shocking and moroic lot is the faggots who think thier Mazda 323/Ford Laser 1.5 litre station Wagon is a Familiia GTR equaliser same with Toyota Corrola XL station wagon owners who think they've got an AE86-like performance under there

That is 100% incorrect there Mr Moppie. You yourself are casting incorrect stereotypes. Not ALL skyline enthusisats are like that, in fact very few are. As far as skylines go the GTR will ALWAYS be the Pinnacle.

The good thing about the skyline is that they were released with a trim setting and an engine to fit all needs, from the 2.6l twin turbo down to the 1.8l 4 cylinder non turbo.

Frankly, both the Civic and the Skyline have their merits, and both have large model ranges and trim levels...so rather than just dishing the crap at each others model, perhaps you might like to comment on each others' individual cars, and the mods that you've made?

it's a general term for the kind of thing that Heep was refering to.My point is,if you own a bone stock car of any breed, regardles of it's specs, you have nothing to brag about,or to knock someone else for.Any idiot can buy speed off the shelf(and far too many do)If your car is no different from the next one off the production line, it's not a statement of your personal taste.

Instead of validating my point, instead read my whole post and note where I said these people are a MINORITY.
Remember I spend most of my working day on the road, and I see a lot of skyline owners who drive thier cars like they are a GTR when they are not even close. The're like that small number of Holden and Ford owners who think that becasue thier car is losely related to a V8 Super car they are somehow faster than everything else on the road.
But there are plenty of owners of other car makes who think the same thing.

And for the record pretty much every Japanese car made since the late 80s comes in a Variety of trim and performance levels to suit all tastes.
The skyline is in not extrodinary in that regard.

and can I have your stereo?
